At Blue Mountain Resort, our Learning Center offers ski and snowboard lessons for all skill levels.  Our lessons are designed to teach students of all ages & abilities on-the-snow basics by fostering a fun, safe and supportive learning environment.  We offer Beginner group lessons for ages 8 & up, Explorers for ages 4 to 12, Private lessons, and Adaptive lessons for children & adults.  Use this page to determine the best type of lesson to meet your needs.

Daily Lesson Options

Beginners Ages 8 & up

Learn good techniques from the start with our Beginner Group Lesson!  This lesson is for first-timers and beginners, ages 8 and up. We use the Terrain Based Learning Program™ to shape the snow and help our guests achieve success right away - with fun and safety!

Age & Ability: Ages 8 & up, first-time or "never-evers" and beginners  
Lift Ticket: Included for Learning Center Magic Carpets, Valley Triple, Summit Vista and Summit School Hill  
Rentals: Included - skis or board, bindings, helmet, boots and optional ski poles  
Times:

Off Peak Hours (excluding holidays): lessons go out on the hour from 10am-6pm, 

Peak Hours (weekends/Holidays): go out continuously from 9am-6pm

Improvement lessons: go out at 10am and 1pm every day, and at 4pm on weekends and holidays.  

 
Length of Lesson: 1.5 hours with at least 1 hour on the snow  
Location: In the Valley at the base of Blue Mountain. Go to the Rental Center and meet your instructor at the colored benches  
Reservations: Not required, arrive when you are ready to go!

Explorers Ages 4 -12

The Explorers Lesson Program is for children of all abilities, ages 4 to 12.  Our Explorer Instructors love working with kids and know how to make learning FUN while keeping children safe.  For the safety of our guests, only children are allowed in the Explorers area.  Here, they will walk across our colorful boot bridge to get fitted properly and play with balance boards, slacklines, and other items before going out on the snow.  Parents receive a security ticket they will need to show to pickup their child, and they are welcome to watch the lesson from our designated area outside.  We offer a second Explorer lesson option on the same day if your child wants more time on the snow.

Registration for all sessions stops 30 minutes prior to start times listed above, so please arrive early.

Parents must remain at Blue Mountain and may be contacted during the program.

Pioneers Ages 6-10

Back by popular demand, our Pioneers Program is for first-timers and beginners, ages 6 to 10.  This multi-week, Sunday afternoon program will help students improve their skills and confidence with the same instructor over a 4-week period.  Groups will be formed with children of similar ages & abilities so they can make friends as they make turns!  To maximize our time on the snow, please arrive 30 minutes prior to the start of the program.  Because space is limited, please complete an application and return it as soon as possible to ensure a spot!  

Age & Ability: Ages 6 to 10, first-timers and beginners
Lift Tickets: Includes an All-Mountain lift ticket
Rentals: Included - skis or board, bindings, boots, and a helmet (optional ski poles). Our instructors will measure the children's height & weight and provide rental equipment. Please arrive early if you need rentals.  After the first day of each session, we will have equipment setup & ready to go!
Times:

Session 1: Sundays in January 4pm to 6pm (Jan 7, 14, 21 & 28)
Session 2: Sundays in February 4pm to 6pm (Feb 4, 11, 18 & 25)

Length of Lesson: Each session spans 4 weeks, 2 hours each Sunday in January & February

Adaptive Ages 6 & up

Our Adaptive Lessons are for individuals with developmental delays, impaired vision or deafness.  Several of our instructors have years of experience as special education teachers, behavioral specialists, or are parents of special needs children.  If your child would benefit from any specific reinforcers, please provide favorite snacks, stickers or whatever you know will help.  Our instructors will teach at the student's pace and comfort level to allow for as much independence as is fun & safe for everyone.  Please talk with us about any special accommodations you may want to provide (i.e. sign language interpreters, etc.) and we will do our best to work with you.

 

Age & Ability: Ages 6 & up, skiers & snowboarders with special needs
Lift Ticket: Included during the lesson
Rentals: $40 per person, includes skis or board, bindings, boots and optional ski poles. Please let us know if you need assistance with rentals. We are happy to bring our adaptive students into a quieter and less crowded area upon request.
Times: Due to this specialized lesson, days & times are based on instructor availability and your schedule.  Please contact us for more info and we will make every effort to accommodate your request.
Length of Lesson: 1 to 2 hours, depending on student ability & skill.

Price: $95 per hour per student, or $155 for 2 hours.  Depending upon student needs, we generally prefer to teach our adaptive lessons with a one-to-one ratio.

Please note:  Specialized equipment such as sit-skis or boards are not available at this time for our adaptive lessons.

Private Lessons

Our Private Lessons are for experienced skiers & snowboarders, or those students who prefer individualized instruction.  Students can choose the length of the lesson and request specific instructors if they have a preference.  Otherwise, our Learning Center staff will match students with instructors.

Age & Ability: Ages 3 & up, all abilities from novice to expert
Lift Ticket: Purchased separately for guests 6 and up, 5 and under are free
Rentals: $40 per person, includes skis or board, bindings, boots and optional ski poles
Times:

Off Peak Hours (excluding holidays): 10am – 4pm

Peak Hours: 9am – 5pm

Length of Lesson: 1 to 6 hours, depending upon student needs

Price: $95 for the 1st student, $60 each additional hour & $60 for each additional student.  You are welcome to extend a lesson if the instructor is available

Winter Adventure Camp

Winter Adventure Camp is designed for skiers & riders ages 8 to 14, who are comfortable on green slopes and want to explore blue and beyond!  Students will ski or snowboard all over the mountain (ability and conditions permitting) as they develop a love of the outdoors and winter sports!  Students will be first on the snow as they take to the slopes 8am to 10am.  Students can sign up for a Saturday or Sunday session, or both, and they will have the same instructor over a 4-week period.  To maximized our time on the snow, please arrive 30 minutes prior to the start of the program.  There will be a maximum of only 30 students accepted per session, so sign up early to ensure a spot!  Click here to watch & learn about Winter Adventure Camp.

Age & Ability: Ages 8 to 14, intermediate and advanced
Lift Ticket: Not included in the purchase of camp
Rentals: Not included with the purchase of camp

Did you know that Blue Mountain Resort participates in the Ski PA Snowpass program for 4th & 5th grade students?  Blue Mountain and the Pennsylvania Ski Areas Association (PSAA) encourage participation and enjoyment of skiing, snowboarding, and snowtubing in Pennsylvania.  Through this program, students in 4th & 5th grade can hit the slopes at over 15 ski resorts in PA!
