    Blue Mountain Ski Patrol

Blue Mountains Ski Patrol is a non-profit organization affiliated with the National Ski Patrol System , one of the largest winter rescue organizations in the world.

Patrollers have the responsibility of providing first aid to our guests, as well as promoting, teaching and enforcing snow sports safety. Our uniforms are designed to let the public know who we are, red parkas or vests with yellow crosses on the back and chest. We carry first aid supplies and a radio so we can communicate with our central dispatch, called Top Shack, and other mountain or patrol personnel. .

Our training and certification is based on the NSP Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) manual, covering almost every scenario that we may encounter during our duties. The OEC credentials qualify us to be ‘Pennsylvania First Responders’. Annual training also includes rectification of CPR, Lift Evacuation / Extrication from a lift (should a loaded lift be inoperable) as well as specific training for the Blue Mountain resort.

When the slopes are open we are there, from opening to closing, in all weathers. We open the slopes in the mornings and we are the last ones off the slopes at night. You will find us on the slope, in the lift lines and at the first aid stations. If you need help, please don’t hesitate to and ask.

Blue Mountain Ski Area’s and our goal is to make your visit with us with nothing more than fond memories of a great day. The resort has varying levels of terrain, from gentle beginner trail’s to some of the steepest runs in Pennsylvania that will challenge any seasoned expert skier. We trust you will enjoy our facilities responsibly for your own safety as well as the safety of our other patrons. We will enforce snow sport safety on slow skiing trails (as designated on the trail map), as well as requiring everybody to abide by the skier / snowboard safety code. Our preference is that you do not require our assistance, but if you do, we will be there.

If you are injured we will transport you by a patrol toboggan to one of the first aid stations. Patrollers are recertified annually to run toboggans, and as a patient it may appear noisy, but you are in good hands. Should you come on a patron requiring help, you can advise the lift attendant accordingly, or call the mountain by cell phone. All light poles have a number and letter reference on them so relay that and we can know where the incident is.

If we are assisting an injured patron, we usually cross our skis up hill so you can avoid the incident. Please give us plenty of space to work, assuring you do not become a second incident by running into us.

Thank you for reviewing this page, and we look forward to seeing you slope side, enjoying our facilities in a safe manner.
